This is the main centre of the Lomellina region and the oldest quarter of the city of Vigevano dates back to medieval times. Given its strategic geographical position, it was the subject of dispute for a long period between Milan and Pavia: it passed from the Visconti to the Sforza family under whom it became a splendid ducal city and a bishop seat in 1530. It is full of renaissance style monuments. |
