The Broletto building of Pavia, which is the oldest in Lombardy, is located in Piazza della Vittoria and was commissioned in the 12th century by the bishop San Damiano as bishop’s quarters. It subsequently became Pavia’s city town hall and was remodelled more than once. Although initially it had a horse shoe shape structure encircling the courtyard, it is now four-sided after the construction of the apses on the west side of the Cathedral. The loggia and the staircase date back to mid-16th century, whereas the clock on the façade dates back to 1872. On the window on the top right hand side, a Madonna di Piazza Grande is depicted from 1604. Exhibitions are held in some of the ground floor rooms; more recently, after the closure of the Tourism Promotion Body, the Municipality based the newly established tourist information board for Pavia and the province (I.A.T.) here which is a main point of reference for tourists and also for the other tourist boards for the area.
